Stella Rosa Non Alcoholic Black [Review]

Today we’re reviewing our second Stella Rosa non alcoholic drink, Black. We purchased all the UnWines in Stellas line together, so we knew they had more than just the peach flavor we reviewed previously. However, unlike the other bottles which give clear hints as to what the flavor is, we weren’t sure what to expect with the Black. On the pink bottle, you know to expect the Rose taste. On the yellow label, you expected Peach flavors. With Stella Rosa, we’re not sure what “Black” would taste like. We had to wonder, would this be a deep burgundy flavor? Or will this non alcoholic wine also be fruity and carry a cherry flavor? Check out our review to find out. TLDR? Skip to the rating.

About the Stella Rosa Brand

We covered the basics behind the Stella Rosa brand in our previous review featuring the Peach Flavor. If you don’t want to jump to that article, here’s a short synopsis. Stella Rosa is an Italian imported wine offered as a lighter and sweeter alternative to deep Californian wines. The San Antonio Winery specifically sought out a light and fruity flavor from the Asti Italian region – famous for its Moscato Asti.

About Stella Rosa® Wines: Award-winning Stella Rosa wines originate from a small town in Northern Italy. Stella Rosa is a selection of wines created and imported by California’s Riboli Family Wines, owned and operated by four generations since its establishment in 1917. DeAlcoholization process

The Stella Rosa Black is categorized as a Soft Drink because it’s a non-alcoholic beverage that didn’t undergo a dealcoholization process. Although the bottle design and the brand suggests that it is an UnWine, alcoholic wine was not used to produce this beverage – just juice! You wouldn’t know this unless you read the label closely. A very subtle “Non alcoholic beverage” is printed on the label instead of Non alcoholic wine

Stella Rosa Black First impressions

Although the bottle was labeled as a Mocktail, the flavor of this non alcoholic drink was not very clear. The description was almost identical to the Peach version – and even from the ingredients, you can’t tell. Other than the grape must and natural flavors – the only other clue, if you could call it that, was the “Made with real fruit flavor” label. The only dark-colored fruits I can think of are cherries and blackberries.

What flavor is Stella Rosa Black non-alcoholic?

On their website, the Stella Rosa Black nonalcoholic flavor is described as “Fresh Fruit Flavors: Blackberry, Blueberry, Raspberry”. Similar to the other Stella Rosa drinks, this non alcoholic mocktail is very fruit-forward. The taste was very similar to a berry blend juice and, if you didn’t pay attention, you would miss the very subtle grape or wine flavor. The bubbles were nice and small, but it just makes it taste more like soda than sparkling wine.

Stella Rosa Black Rating and Review

Rating 2 of 5 sips

The Stella Rosa Non Alcoholic Black gets a rating of 2 Sips. It’s OK and I might have it again. However, this is not a good replacement for a wine substitute. It’s a bit too fruity and sweet, which makes it hard to pair with anything else. Although the sweetness makes it enjoyable to drink, it’s definitely not a wine replacement.

The result was very surprising to us because we really enjoyed the Stella Rosa Non Alcoholic Peach, which was also very close in sugar content. With such contrasting reviews for the same brand, we can’t wait to try the other Stella Rosa flavors.
